According to a press release, Miami-Dade County commissioners have approved a proposal by Carlos de Narvaez to turn county-owned land into a "country club for cars". The South American developer is calling his $100 million luxury project, Drivers Club Miami. The Club is set to rise on a 160 acre site just west of Miami Gardens on 20000 Northwest 47th Avenue.
Drivers Club Miami is set to be a massive entertainment destination for wealthy auto enthusiasts. For a membership fee of around $100K, club members will have access to a 2-mile private driving track, auto storage and maintenance facilites for their luxe vehicles, a $10 million community clubhose, shopping, restaurants, hotel components and a government center for northwestern Miami-Dade County.
The county contract would lease 140 acres of land to De Narvaez for a term of 30 years with an option to expand to the full 160 acres. The lease will cost the developer at least $33.4 million. In exchange for waiving competitive bidding and the below-market lease rate, De Narvaez agreed to build additional city improvements including a new public bicycle course, and build new nearby facilities for the three local nonprofits currently stationed on the location.
